Artifact: Emerging Technology Project
Reflection
The Emerging Technologies project that I created for an assignment was before I found out that our school district would be creating a Google Classroom account. My assignment was to create a powerpoint to help encourage integrating technology and promote best practices in teaching, learning and assessment. I chose Google because I was working with Edmodo with success with the students and I was starting to work with Google with the students because I had learned about how Google was starting to work with schools to create safer space for students to work collaboratively. Google is promoting best practices by having programs that work with students and teachers to help create engaging learning and minimizing the paperwork for students and faculty. It seemed liked a great professional learning experience for teachers.
This assignment shows mastery of this standard because it was about providing professional learning to convince people the importance of Google to support the faculty. The students will benefit from the teachers learning how to use these Google products. Adult learning is just as important as student learning. If you expect the students to be engaged and learn, the adult faculty needs to be just as engaged when it comes to using the product. The technology coach’s job is to provide the necessary adult learning through professional learning that aligns to state and national professional learning standards.
One of the things that would have been done differently is probably to add some type of element where it could have been an collaboration with not just the coach but someone from Google who could come in and really go deep into the professional learning process to talk to faculty of how important Google is to the faculty and the staff.
This assignment is important to the faculty development because it aligns with the professional learning standards that all faculty and staff must have every year. It goes to promoting best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment that is crucial to the improvement of faculty development. If we are to become 21st century schools, the faculty needs to know how to use the 21st century digital tools that the school districts are paying for. Professional development is important for student achievement as well as faculty development. The technology coach could assess the use the technology with a survey or if it was available to pull usage of the program from the district. The coach could survey the faculty to see how they are using the program and if they are having difficulty of success with adding the technology in their curriculum and work.
