Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
Reflection
The artifact I included was the Shared Vision and Rationale paper that was completed during the Leadership class taken last semester. I worked with my principal who provided me with the documents from the school’s vision and data planning to create the artifact. Shared vision involves the development and implementation after meeting with the school team and having a deeper understanding of the school community and stakeholders. The shared vision for the school is is to create a rich and stimulating educational environment using various technological advances to enhance students’ school experience. Our vision will be accomplished with connecting our students, teachers, staff, and community to technology that will help reinforce the pathway to college and career readiness in our school. Through the support and encouragement from all stakeholders, we will promote balanced, life-long learners.
The assignment was created in order to show how to develop and implement a shared vision for the school and I believe I mastered this skill. I believe that I showed mastery in this by working collaboratively with my principal to work with the vision of technology in the school and to show where I believe that all of the stakeholders can participate in bringing this vision to fruition. This was my new school assignment and I was able to understand why a vision statement is so important for the school. It provides anyone who is walking into the school an understanding of the goals of the school throughout the building. I was also was able to learn how as a leader in the school you look into all parts of the school, not just at the students and teachers. I learned how this vision was for the entire school community. This related to the use of technology with leadership to be able to communicate with the community in order for this shared vision to be effective.
I learned from completing the Shared Vision project was how intricate the process is to develop a vision that will accurately describe the school’s future. It involves so much from data analysis to parent and school surveys to determine what the school’s vision is. I think to improve the quality of the artifact would include having a more in depth look at the school. I was at a slight disadvantage because I had not worked at the school before but I have spoken and worked with the principal over the summer. I think the process with my old school would have provided more of my own observations of school climate and environment to provide more in depth look into how more factors could help the school vision.
The vision impacted school improvement and student achievement. I believe that this process of the vision development goes into how the school is going to work on their deficits, in our school’s case it is reading and math skills. The school’s plan is to increase opportunities for the students through educational technology to help provide more individualized learning with the students. This is in direct correlation with Standard 1.1 in the use of technology in teaching, learning, and leadership because the leadership needs to work to provide the technology in the schools and get the teachers properly trained so they can release it to the students in order for them to learn it. The Vision Plan and Rationale project is the product created to give a blueprint to complete this type of product for the school. It can be assessed by looking at the school environment to see if they are following the vision for the school and if it is being communicated through all stakeholders and they can interpret what the school vision is.
