Reflection
When it comes to showing continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies, I thought the best way to show that is to show my photos from attending the most recent Georgia Educational Technology Conference that happened in November of this year and last year. I admit to not even being aware that this conference was in existence until a couple of years ago thanks to my time on the Fulton County’s Technology Leadership Forum where were allowed to attend all three days of the conference. It was so wonderful to be in a place with so many like minded educators, as well as people who wanted to learn about how they can use technology to be more effective in the classroom.
I think that this shows mastery of this standard because where else but at a conference geared towards educational technology that you can find multiple resources to improve personal productivity and professional practices. It is important as an educator that you are always exploring all types of resources that will improve your skills and give you strategies to present it to faculty and students. The purpose of these conferences is to inspire and encourage others of the benefits of technology for education sake. These conferences provide the growth of emerging technologies that are not just new, but those that have been enhanced to improve delivery and use of these tools in education.
I think that my only way I would change or improve on this is to attend more conferences. I should pay more attention to the smaller conferences as much as the big conferences. I think that I could learn so much from a conference that focuses on one emerging technology and get a wealth of information to guide my instruction just as a much as a large conference with so many sources of information. I think that this will always be ongoing to find ways to grow professionally so that I can apply them to improve personal productivity and professional practice. Since this is about me and what I am doing to improve professionally to improve faculty and student development I think it would require some self-assessment on my part. I need to do a check every now and then to make sure I am applying those new skills and not just setting them to the side after I learn them. I need to see if there is a certain area of technology that is my weakness and go to conferences or professional developments that will help me improve on those weaknesses.
