Artifact: Action Evaluation Plan and SWOT Analysis
Reflection
I added two assignments regarding the Strategic Planning standard which was the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats,Analysis and the Action Evaluation Plan. These were both created in the Leadership Class for KSU. The SWOT Analysis is a way to look at what the school has and determine what the school needs in order to be successful at accomplishing their vision for the school in regards to becoming a technologically advanced school. I also included the related Action Plan that sets goals for the school to reach the goals of the school vision. I used the data provided by my principal regarding the prior year’s vision and plan to create the plan that should be put in place for the school for us to reach our vision during the upcoming school year.
These artifacts show mastery of this standard because I had to have open communication with my principal regarding the school’s vision and goals before I even moved into the school. I also had to show that I could successfully interpret and evaluate the information provided to me in order to design and develop a realistic action plan for the school for them to move closer towards the school vision. I collaborated with the principal and analyzed the data they collected to previous year to compile the information to determine the school’s strengths and weaknesses. I had to look into ways that the technology could be infused throughout the school’s goals. This was not an easy task, it required a lot of looking deep into the needs of the students and teachers, and to think of cost effective ways that the school could be successful.
I learned how to work on designing plans for a school to determine where the strengths lie and where I could be useful as a coach to work on maintaining those strengths and to help eliminate some of the school’s weaknesses. Being a classroom teacher, I have worked with a lot of grade levels but not all at one time so I enjoyed working with an assignment that had to deal with working with a project that was schoolwide. If I could do anything differently I wish I would have had a chance to have communication with the staff. The course where I had to complete this assignment was over the summer so I was not able to know what the staff’s concern were regarding if they had suggestions or what they would like to see. If they are part of the action plan, then I believe that they should have some say, even if it just in the form of an anonymous survey so they can be candid and honest regarding the vision for technology in the classroom.
This artifact impacted school improvement since this project looks at the entire school’s needs. It requires the development of a plan that will affect all stakeholders in the school building. The Action Evaluation made you look at all of the different students based on gender, disabilities or language since this school does have ELL students that need certain accommodations as well. These projects are about evaluating the school’s strengths as well as the weaknesses and works to improve both. It will impact making the school stronger and reach their goals for technology improvement. The impact can be assessed by seeing if students are increasing content knowledge with the incorporation of technology. Since the action plan had some goal numbers, a survey at the end of the school year can be completed to see if goals were met and evaluate why to determine if parts of the plan need to be changed or just improved.
