Artifact: Action Plan Part 1 and Action Plan Part 2
Reflection
The Action Plan part 1 and part 2 assignment that was created shows how the school uses diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student learning in the school building. This was a very interesting artifact to create because you get to understand what a school really looks at when it comes to student data and how they use or do not use digital assessment tools and resources. It showed strengths as well as the weaknesses in the school and how best to approach solving the weaknesses. I created the document after collaborating with the principal to find out what methods were being used to assess the student achievement. This was an interesting to see since the school is only a primary school and as of recent years, they were not using any standardized testing on the students since 2012. I collaborated with the principal to gather the information from last school year in order to create the action plan used for the assignment.
An action plan looks at if there any other assessments that can be used to accurately measure student success and whether other assessment tools need to be taken away if they are not effective assessment tools for showing student learning. I think by taking the data that was provided to me by administration to review showed how I modeled and facilitated my interpretation of the effective use of the diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments by creating an action plan that showed how the school was or could be effectively using digital assessment tools and resources. I modeled how the action plan could show how the assessments are measuring student learning and what if any changes need to be made to improve student learning.
I learned how now many of the assessment tools and resources being used to measure student learning technology literacy were through digital assessment tools and resources. The schools are now starting to understand the purpose of digital literacy to help teachers with reaching all students at all levels, especially with the rising of class sizes this year due to schools’ closing in the districts. The teachers were having difficulty with reaching all of the students with 25-30 students in a class and the schedules not designed to work with all students every day. I think the only thing that I would change is to have an opportunity to speak with the teachers at the school to see if the action plan looked reasonable. This was a summer assignment so I only had the principal to work with at the time. I would have liked to have the opportunity with the assignment to get feedback from more than the data and the principal. As a tech coach, it helps to get input from various sources to find out the true strengths and weaknesses that data may not show. You get to know the personality of the school outside of the data. Working with a team helps to build that relationship with the school that you are creating this plan to create a stronger school academically and socially. You want to show that you are working with all of the stakeholders in creating this action plan. This is an assignment that gives a voice from all involved. In the future I know that I will be working with more than just one person when it comes to creating this plan.
How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement, faculty development or student learning? How can the impact be assessed? The work into creating the artifact could help with school improvement to expose the school to everything that is being done and what more needs to be done to help students.
The impact will be assessed based on the testing that will occur during the school year. Will there be changes in the positive with scores throughout the school year? Will anyone drop? Will students stay the same? There will be impact in how teachers deliver lessons that may come into review where a coach may be needed to help facilitate. There may be a need for parents to have a workshop to understand what more they can do for their children at home to help their students be successful.
