In our 7445 class we had the project to complete regarding adaptive and assistive technologies. In this project, I had to determine if my school had any assistive or adaptive technology in the classroom. I had to determine whether or not if there was adaptive or assistive technology used in the classroom was it being used for the students. Since the school did not have any severe special needs students that required assistance or adaptive technology there was not any. I did suggest that maybe using a free voice typing service for students who have deficiencies and reading and writing that they could use that technology was all I could be able to offer due to budget restrictions for the school.
This artifact demonstrates my mastery of the element because I facilitate the use of adaptive and assistive technologies to support student learning needs. I provided some assistance with assistive and adaptive technology within the constraints of our school. Even though the Special Education teacher wanted to use more technology, unfortunately budget restraints and the needs of the students did not fit the purpose of buying or purchasing any other adaptive or assistive technologies. We were unfortunately forced to work with what is free and what is available online.
I learned that unfortunately when it comes to school budgets, you find out that there are lots of limitations to what the school will provide for students. I think I believe if some people from the district would have a chance to come in and see these students that they might realize that they might need to upload the budget for more assistive and adaptive technologies since there is a rising number of students who are qualified for special needs assistance and there's a need for assistive and adaptive technology can help the teacher facilitating and working with the students based on their individual needs.
If I did anything differently or this artifact. I think I would have had a chance if time allowed me to go to other schools that do use assistive and adaptive technology. Unfortunately I was not able to further this project outside of my own school I would have liked to have a chance to actually visit and see assistive and adaptive technology in use in the school system. I know that there are schools who do use it but they were not any in our area immediately that I could go and visit and spend time with learning how they use assistive and adaptive technology in the program and within their school. That way I can have a clear visual of how adaptive and assistive technologies are used in the classrooms outside from the video that I viewed during my class that showed it in other schools I would have loved to end to have a chance to see it use hands-on and look at it and see the different technologies that are used with special needs students.
Of course using assistive and adaptive technologies in the school would positively impact student learning because they would have more resources that they need in order to work with and improve their educational experience. There are students who are under great limitations because the schools cannot provide this assistive and adaptive technology. If they cannot provide these technologies to these to those they're at a disadvantage against students who are provided these technologies. It is risking having some students fall further behind because they don't have the technology that other students have that aren't helping them make some games in their education.
